Now instead of stone, homeowners can have formaldehyde-free countertops
in the form of bamboo sheets. These countertops are 16% harder than
maple and growing like grass in popularity. Bamboo countertop sheets are
available in 4′ and 8′ and four dissimilar grains. The vertical grain
looks extraordinarily like a standard hardwood but is much more
sustainable and lighter. Bamboo is also available for backsplash decoration.
After years of research and kitchen testing, this bamboo is approved as
solid bamboo countertop sheets. The knowledge gained from crafting over
one million cutting boards has resulted in perfecting the mechanized
process of thick, stable sheets that are amazingly beautiful and a green
alternative to traditional wood counter tops. The unique countertop
sheets are readily available in a variety of styles, including exclusive
grain. Ready for contractor installation, bamboo countertop sheets are
constructed with cross-band. It should be ideally glued as this keeps
the sheet both flat, as well as lessens the tendency to twist or warp.
Styles and size of Bamboo Countertops
There are basically four different patterns such as flat grain dark,
vertical grain dark and dark and natural parquet end grain. All styles
are constructed with exclusive cross-band laminate. Both the flat grain
and vertical grain are available in 1″ thick, 30″ wide home fitting
ready sheets in 8′ lengths. Sheets come unfinished and sanded to 180 grit
and ready to be spliced together for a kitchen, installed as counter
tops. One can router the edge profiles to suit the individual kitchen
style. It is recommended to seal the counter tops with any of the
excellent finishes currently on the market. One can simply use mineral oil, or
as a natural alternative, walnut oil, and then seal with bees wax.
Vegetable oil or olive oil is not recommended as it can leave an unpleasant
odor.
Durability of Bamboo Countertops
The bamboo used for countertops are all-natural material, and as such,
the material will have natural variations in its coloration from sheet
to sheet. Manufacturers make every effort to ensure color consistency.
The products are warranted against any manufacturing error, but cannot
be warranted against conditions that are beyond control, like extreme
dryness, humidity or abusive handling.Â
