Countertop finishing is the material seen on the countertop surface
areas, increasing the beauty of countertop.  There are three basic types
of countertop finishes: matte or satin, semi-gloss and high gloss.  Most
countertops have a matte or satin finish; however, countertops can have
any type of finishing. Usually most Corian sinks have a matte finish
giving the countertop a smooth surface.

Cleaning Countertop Finishes

Countertop finishes can be maintained by simply keeping the countertop
clean and neat. Soapy water or ammonia-based cleaners are helpful in
removing most dirt and stains from all types of finishes. Different
techniques should be used to remove stubborn stains.  An abrasive cleanser
can be used to clean a matte or satin countertop finish.  Countertop
finishes can be cleaned with a soft cotton material.  A soft scrub or
diluted bleach can also be used.

For a high glass finish, a sponge can be used. Finishing should not be
cleaned with hard substances because there could be chances of
streaking the finishing.  Acidic substances such as lime juice and orange juice
should not be placed or allow to settle down on the countertop; they
will not only damage but also reduce the beauty of the countertop finish.

Basically a countertop finish acts as a protection layer to the
countertop while increasing the beauty of the countertop.  In other words,
they provide a higher level of protection to the countertop. Any scratch
on the finishing spoils the beauty of the countertop. Hot items should
not be kept on the countertop.  Wooden countertops gain moisture very
easily; however, a countertop finish protects wood material from drying.
