Bathroom Countertops
Closed Published June 11th, 2007 in Bathroom Improvements, Countertops, Misc Home ImprovementBathroom countertops provide extra workspace in the bathroom. Since
wood can be damaged by moisture, synthetic material that is resistant to
water, moisture and dampness are ideal to be used for bathroom
countertops. These are custom-made and can be tailored to a bathroom’s design in
respect of color, pattern, size and shape. Bathroom countertops are
home décor fixtures manufactured to provide a workspace near showers,
whirlpools, and vanity sinks or bath tubs.
Plastic Laminate Countertops
Plastic laminates are water resistant and quite decorative for bathroom
countertops. These come in different finishes and styles ranging from
low luster to high gloss. Plastic laminated bathroom vanity countertops
are usually available with recessed sinks with self-rims and
under-mounted bowls. However they may get damaged by excessive heat and can be
affected by scratches from sharp objects and damages from ceramic or
abrasive things dragged upon them.
Care and Maintenance of bathroom countertops
Laminate countertops can be cleaned easily by using a soft,
non-abrasive cloth and a mild household cleaner. Scouring pads, abrasive powders,
steel wool and sandpaper can scratch their surface. Dyes or other
staining products can permanently stain the surfaces. To avoid such stains,
self-cleaning wax should be periodically applied. Laminate countertops
are economical and long lasting when used carefully, but if water is
allowed to seep into the seams and under sink edges, then it can cause
the laminate to separate by damaging the substrate.
Bathroom Marble Countertops
Bathroom marble countertops are functional, elegant and are available
in a gamut of colors and styles. Cultured marble and cultured onyx is
very popular for bathroom countertops. Its surface is hard, rugged,
waterproof and stain-resistant. Repairing these surfaces is very easy, with
a little sanding and polishing, it can make the surface shine like new.Â
The most frequent problem is the formation of hairline cracks, which
has been solved by the cultured marble option. These surfaces are very
easy to clean and polish, and a protective coat of wax provides a perfect
finish. Abrasive and scouring powders on these countertops can reduce
its shine.
Corian bathroom countertops
Corian bathroom countertops are made of a mix of natural materials and
pure acrylic polymer. It has a smooth surface and comes in many colors.
It is non-porous and resistant to mold, mildew, bacteria, moisture and
stains. Such countertops are easy to clean and maintain,
hypoallergenic, nontoxic and chemically non-reactive. The different types of finishes
available include: matte, semi-gloss and gloss. Using heat-generating
appliances or hot pans can damage the surface.
